Jessa's paintings and drawings emerge from her experiences in the backcountry exploring ways to blend art and adventure. Her drawings, created outside during her explorations, capture the spirit of that landscape during her time there, while serving as studies for large scale, full-color paintings. Being mobile and transportable is a large part of the art process, as she brings her studio along these adventures to create artworks within the setting of that experience.
The artworks are about compassion and the human experience. They are about struggle as much as they are about celebrating activity, landscape, and these moments within the wild. These pieces explore the beauty and the mystery of wilderness and activity through the use of color, shape, and line by being expressive and dramatic, bold and bright... because that is what life is. It is all of those heightened elements combined.
Jessa grew up in Upstate New York before moving to Vermont to study Art and Art History at the University of Vermont... and to snowboard. She relocated to BC in 2013 and has since been dedicated to exploration and creation that celebrates adventure and the landscape along the Sea to Sky corridor. You will find her in the mountains, at the beach, or on her bike exploring and working on the #getoutoftownvibe series.
Jessa is currently based out of Squamish, British Columbia, where the union of Art and the outdoors is part of her everyday life. Jessa’s work has been exhibited internationally, notably in New York, Vermont, California, Montreal and Vancouver. She has collaborated with brands like Salomon Freeski, Lambrecht Surfboards, Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC), Baldface Lodge, and many more.
