Kristy Turney

Minimalist artist Kristy Turney of Scandinavia Wolf Designs' latest collection of jewelry, art and home décor has a wonderfully calming style that reflects the inherent beauty of Squamish and the west coast. Turney’s ‘natural material’ creations are omnipresent in her work Jewelry such as hand-made necklaces, bracelets and earrings using natural gemstones, pearls, precious metals, leather and reclaimed wood. And on her boutique walls, take in the acrylic paintings with yarn details, reclaimed wood decor ladders, her tiered blanket/towel swings along, and so much more like her ‘Jewelry for Your Walls’ which combine the symmetry of a perfect circle which is contrasted by a fallen branch, often twisted or asymmetrical and incorporating accents with gemstones, wool and leather.

Turney’s inspiration behind her latest work is Hygge. Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. “My artwork, home decor and jewelry are all inspired by this concept. Describing my creative process is difficult because it comes from a combination of my own energy and the energy of the materials that I use. To be honest the process is somewhat mysterious even to me until it starts to take shape. I'm learning now that my best work comes about when I'm connecting with the mediums and their energies I'm working with. I am trying my best to stay present and mindful so that I can allow the natural beauty of the materials, that I've been drawn to use, to meld together with my own energies,” she says. Turney is interested in the Hygge concept, recognizing something that had previously been more subconscious and now embraces it more consciously, particularly because of her own Scandinavian descent.

Turney has been casually creating art and designing since she was young. Around 2014 she launched Scandinavia Wolf Designs, facilitating her current focused and dedicated artistic experience. Recently her husband joined her business full-time. “We already collaborate a great deal on home decor items (like driftwood decor ladders and other small home furnishings) as well, Jeff creates a lot of finely detailed wooden elements which I combine into one of a kind jewelry pieces,” says Turney who admits that her style has changed over the years, “My jewelry has evolved a great deal and continues to do so with every season. I've been told I have a sixth sense for future trends and often find my designs are leading what I see out in the world.”

When you own a piece of Scandinavia Wolf a positive energy comes with it.
